It’s S’wichcraft…

Yet another new addition to the Shuswap food scene is Chef Erik Juarez and team who recently relocated from the Lower Mainland. They are quickly becoming a favourite stop for folks in the downtown core with their food truck often located at the Ross Street Plaza.

Strawberry Fields Aren’t Forever

Unlike the melancholy tune made famous by the Beatles, the strawberry season in this growing region is quite short.

Which is why I was so delighted to get the last quart of the beautiful berries grown at Vitale Farm in Salmon Arm at last Saturday’s Downtown Farmers Market.

Strawberries from Vitale Farm & Menagerie

Unlike their year round California cousins, these beauties are jammed packed with flavour not despite, but because, of their smaller size. Delish doesn’t begin to describe how good they are.

Make sure you visit Vitale Farm and Menageries’s stand come this Saturday’s market. Go see them first so as not to miss your chance!

Merci a Moncton Fish Market

Celebrations in our home often mean lobster. We are always happy to call on the friendly folks at Moncton Fish Market who ship across the country and around the world.

Moncton Fish Market, Moncton, NB

When I called this week to order for our son’s graduation, they took extra care to make sure it arrived on time and I’m very grateful.

What a lovely surprise to open the box and find a hand written note that reads “Happy Graduation”.

Happy Graduation

Merci a Moncton Fish Market. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

The ShuBox Rocks!

The Shuswap Food Action Society champions the building of community around food, food security and nutrition. It calls on all of us to understand and support our local food network as an act of building local resiliency and population health.

Their work is inspiring from their leadership in starting the Downtown Salmon Arm Farmers Market, to the teaching garden and the food conversations hosted on Voice of the Shuswap community radio.

The ShuBox Program starts again this week (June 9, 2021)

This weeks marks the re-start of their ShuBox food box program offering a box of local food from local venders as well as a newsletter, storage tips and recipe ideas. And, if that wasn’t enough, every purchase of a ShuBox helps subsidize a box for our most vulnerable.

You can order and their online store and pick up on Saturdays at the market. When we eat local, we keep growing.

Pure Armstrong

Self described at backyard farmers with 4 chickens and over 400,000 bees, it won’t come as a surprise that they harvest honey (which is ready in the autumn). But they also specialize in dutch pastries and energy bites.

Give a Nod to the Nom

What a delightful discovery! At Illustrated Eats, we aim to amplify local food and are working our way through the alphabet to highlight local goods and local producers. N was a tricky letter to fill. But then, what should appear on my social media feed but this gorgeous bottle of beautiful juice.

The Nom Shuswap offers prepared meals and fresh-pressed juice for pick up in Salmon Arm and Blind Bay. The team consists of a holistic nutritionist and a plant based chef.
