Cooking


I’m a home cook, not a chef. We’re all cooks. It’s a matter of survival. But thankfully, it’s also a matter of joy, of love, of culture and of tradition. Don’t expect expertise here – just ideas, suggestions, successes and yes, happy accidents.

Writing


I write but I’m not an author. And while I have spent my career telling stories for others – businesses, non-profits, publishers and even politicians – I know that the stories we connect to most are memorable because they are personal.

I’m no artist but what I know for sure is that when you unleash a coloured piece of lead on a fresh piece of paper, happiness happens. There are no rules. Only possibilities free of perfection, progress’s greatest enemy.

K is for Kohlrabi

Cabbage, meet turnip. This is basically what Kohlrabi is. It can be eaten raw or cooked (do peel it first) and it is a used in many parts of the world. It’s grown here in the Shuswap and is often available from local vegetable farms. In German, “khol” means cabbage and “rabi” means radish.

J is for Jalapeno

These little green peppers full of goodness are great to warm things up as we approach the cold dark nights of November and yes, they are grown here too, in the Shuswap. Jalapenos are the first pepper ever sent to space on NASA’s Space Shuttle. And if that’s not exciting enough, they are also sky…
